Acne and Insecurities
Are you worried because the texture of your skin changes in different seasons? Do you feel insecure about yourself because of this factor? Because this is the same as what happened with me and I feel like my experience might help you to get through it.ย
So, in the summers I used to be insecure because I had acne breakouts on my skin during the summer season. And while in winter it used to be extremely dry within an hour even if I applied moisturizer. I did not want other people to look at me because I thought these things make me look ugly.
I prefer applying makeup while going out to cover my breakouts which ended up killing my inner actual self. My self-esteem without makeup was nothing and I used to stare at myself and compare myself to my friends wondering if I will ever have skin as clear as theirs.ย
I thought I cannot actually be happy just because I am scared of my actual skin texture and what if people hate me for that? Even if someone used to compliment me, I never thought it was real. I thought they said it as a formality.ย
After a certain point of time, I wanted to stop being insecure, I wanted to show the original me and I missed my past self where I did not care about anything and was just happy showing up as the way I am. I was never someone who used to miss social gatherings and a party with friends just because I thought I was not looking pretty enough today but I turned out to be an introvert through an extrovert person just because of this.ย
How I dealt with this
- I challenged the negative thoughts of my own self. I made myself remember that the people arenโt there with me because of my physical appearance but because of what I am as a person. I replaced the negative and self-criticizing statements with positive affirmations which endedย up being great help.ย
- I sought out supportive communities or online groups where I can connect with others who have similar skin concerns. Sharing experiences, tips, and success stories can provide encouragement and a sense of belonging.
- It's easy to fall into the trap of comparing yourself to others, especially in the age of social media. Remember that everyone's skin is different, and comparing yourself to others only leads to unnecessary self-doubt. Focus on your own progress and celebrate small victories.
- ย I focused on overall self-care, including activities that promote physical and mental well-being like exercise, balanced diet and relaxation techniques like deep breathing, meditation. Taking care of yourself holistically can improve your mood and confidence.
You need to Remember that building self-confidence takes time and effort. Be patient with yourself and practice self-compassion along the way. Your worth is not determined by the appearance of your skin, but by the person you are inside. Following the techniques that I did basically is about convincing your own self and replacing the negative thoughts with positive affirmations. Because the reason behind the insecurity is your own you. So challenging it might be difficult but it can prove to be successful.ย
