5 actions to take this Earth Day to lead a more sustainable lifestyle 🌎

Earth Day is marked every year on April 22nd to express awareness in environmental protection. Pollution, deforestation, and climate change are just a few of the harsh realities that contribute to social and environmental degradation on the planet.

Kamakhyaa, your one-stop shop for eco-friendly and ethical fashion, has put up a list of 5 fantastic actions to help you live a more sustainable life!

“Waste isn’t waste till you waste it!”

1. Recycle as much as possible

85% of our clothes end up in landfills or burned causing land and air pollution. The most environmentally friendly practice with existing products is to recycle, upcycle or repurpose them to reuse the existing product in innovative ways! Making a crop top out of a scarf or a patched up shirt from a dress are just a few examples of repurposing and upcycling the product. To know more about upcycling, read here

Don’t miss out on Kamakhyaa’s personal assistance in supporting circularity. Get in contact with us if you're seeking DIY for recycling and reusing your Kamakhyaa merchandise. Our in-house stylist will give you unique ways to upcycle or repurpose the products!

2. Give unwanted clothes to charity

Donate items that are still in good shape after being washed. Make sure it can be worn by someone else. More information on the do’s and don'ts of contributing can be found here.

Giving unused garments to someone who might need them is a terrific approach to improve circularity in the economy while avoiding waste and pollution. It's also a fantastic way to boost your self-esteem! Knowing that you've made a difference in someone's life will make you feel more fulfilled and powerful.

If you donate your clothes with Kamakhyaa, you earn a voucher in exchange :) Get in touch with us to know more!

3. Choose Vegan

The manufacturing of animal-derived commodities, such as wool, fur, and leather, contributes to climate change, land devastation, pollution, and water contamination by causing the pain and death of billions of animals each year. By making better choices about the food we eat, the items we buy, and the activities we support, we have the power to save animals from horrific misery.

Greetings to all animal lovers! PETA-certified vegan items are available through Kamakhyaa, ensuring that the designer brands do not perform or commission animal testing on ingredients, formulations, or finished products, and that they will not do so in the future.

Check for the "Peta-Approved" label and know that vegan materials are now far lighter, more durable, and more useful than ever before ;)

4. Push yourself towards naturally made products

Synthetic fibers in our clothing, such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET) or polyester, nylon, acrylic, and others, are created from crude oil and are nearly impossible to reuse in other ways – meaning they cannot be recycled or composed. So, the simplest first step toward a sustainable future is to purchase a naturally made product rather than a synthetic product. You'll still be able to recycle and repurpose them!

Chemicals and azo dyes are not used in the production of natural products. Hemp and bamboo clothing and accessories are two examples. Cork, mushrooms, pineapple leaves, apple peels, banana fibers, and other fruit waste are other examples of innovative and sustainable materials for you to choose naturally created products from!

5. Go bold with organic

Don't buy organic products that don't have a certification like GOTS. To give consumers solid assurances, GOTS ensures the organic status of textiles from the harvesting of raw materials to environmentally and socially responsible manufacture and labelling.

GOTS also incorporates environmental and social requirements, which are backed up by independent textile supply chain certification. This takes into account the seeds used to harvest the cotton, the harvesting process, the usage of raw resources, and ensuring that the products are ethically processed up to the labelling. This is done in order to give the consumer a trustworthy and reliable product guarantee.

These are some simple beginner's tips to help you live a more sustainable lifestyle. By participating in the above activities that reduce waste, pollution, promote animal welfare, uplift society, and ensure circularity, we can make our earth a happier, healthier place to live.
